Priya started her career journey working in the travel industry but was unfortunately made redundant. She then used this time to think about the next stage of her career journey. This ultimately led her to study for an Events Management diploma, and then her own journey in the events industry granted her experience with a venue, supplier, and catering. After being made redundant again due to the covid-19 pandemic, she found her new role with EMA.
A few years ago she met two new contacts at a networking event, and discovered that they shared similar views on how there wasn’t enough assistance when taking your first steps into the industry whether that was through academia or a through a career change. To bridge this gap, they created and co-founded Event First Steps where their aim is encouraging newcomers to forge their own career paths. Their core values are routes to industry, visibility of the entire industry and diversity. Priya’s personal commitment to diversity sees her involved with the BVEP, Diversity Ally and EventWell D&I committees.
In 2017 she applied and was successful in getting a place on the Fast Forward 15 mentorship programme so has great experience of the programme. She is a BAME Ambassador for the programme and assists with the editing of the monthly newsletter.
